You and your family surely follow a recycling programme. And that’s great! 🙂
However, we should also consider small changes to our daily routine that could make a big difference.
For example… do you always turn off the lights when you leave a room? Do you leave the “standby led” of electronic appliances in your home on?
What about water? do you turn off the water when you brush your teeth?
Have you ever thrown paper, plastic, gum wrappers, cigarette butts, chewing gums etc on the street?
Guess how much time is needed by the Earth to naturally get rid of the following items people might throw away and leave around…
– a newspaper
– a chewing gum
– a can
– the plastic of a cigarette lighter
– plastic bottles
Well, you probably didn’t know that for a newspaper at least 3 months are needed, while for a chewing gum the Earth needs 5 years. Did I say FIVE? Yes, I did. But let’s continue.
An aluminium can requires from 10 to 100 years. For the plastic of a cigarette lighter the Earth requires at least a century. And, last but not least, plastic bottles. They take from 100 to 1000 years to be naturally destroyed.
Will you consider the possibility of changing some of your habits? Which changes are easier for you? Will you tell your family and your friends as well?
