The words for it: crime

Look at the following list of crimes. How many do you know? Can you find the Italian equivalent for each?

  1. THEFT (steal something, as a car, etc.)
  2. ROBBERY (steal money from a bank, etc.)
  3. BURGLARY (steal from a house or flat, usually when the owners are away)
  4. MUGGING (steal money or jewels from a person in the street)
  5. MURDER (kill one or more people)
  6. KIDNAPPING (take someone away by force, hold him/her prisoner and ask for something – usually money – before you set them free)
  7. ARSON (set fire to a building, a vehicle, a wood or place)
  8. SHOPLIFTING (steal goods from a shop hiding them in a bag)
  9. VANDALISM (deliberate damaging of private or public property)
  10. HIJACKING (take control of a plane or any other vehicle by force)
  11. FRAUD (gaining money by a trick or by lying)
  12. TERRORISM (use of violence to force a government to do something)
  13. BLACKMAIL (threaten to reveal a secret unless someone does something, for example give money)
  14. DRUG TRAFFICKING (deal in drugs)
  15. PICKPOCKETING (steal people’s bags or wallets in public places)
  16. LITTERING (throw rubbish on to the streets)
  17. WRITING GRAFFITI (write or draw on public buildings)
  18. SMUGGLING (take people or things to a place illegally or secretly)
