Waiting for Christmas: mistletoe

Mistletoe symbolized immortality for the Druids, as this plant bears fruit in winter, in particular at the Winter Solstice (the shortest day/longest night of the year, on 21st or 22nd December, considered the first day of winter). The Druids used it in religious rites as they believed the mistletoe growing on Valona oaks could cure infertility, especially of animals.

Do you know of the funny tradition about mistletoe in the USA?

People usually hang it over a door, and if someone stands under it, he or she must be kissed by a person of the opposite sex.
