Dire Straits – Sultans of Swing

Today I’m going to write about my favourite song: Sultans of Swing by Dire Straits 🙂

I was a child when I listened to this song for the first time: I had never listened to a rock song before, so I liked it immediately!

I’ve grown up with Dire Straits’ songs, they have become my favourite rock band. My father loves them, too, and he showed me a concert on DVD.

Now I’m learning to play this song, and it’s so hard!

In the song, Mark Knopfler wants to describe an evening in a club, where “Sultans of Swing”, a famous jazz group, is playing. There are a lot of people and children, who are having fun. There’s too much competition, he says, but sounds are unique and wonderful.

My favourite part of the song is the last, when there’s a crazy guitar solo: I love it!

Here’s the video: enjoy it! 😀

  1. I think Dire Straits are among the best rock bands in the history of rock music… and I am very pleased to see that your generation appreciates their music as my generation did, only “some” years ago… 😉
Thanks a lot for this post brian, and… keep on practising your guitar solo! 🙂

  2. I have a transcription of the two solos in music sheet and tablature. If you need it, just let me know.
